Ranger vs Tacoma: Adventurous Capabilities

2019 Ford Ranger Towing CapacityThe 2019 Ranger and Tacoma are built to handle a lot, which includes rugged off-road trails. They both feature an excellent lineup of available features designed to help you tackle even the most rugged terrain, such as:

  • Electronically Locking Rear Differentials
  • Terrain Management System™ (Ford) and Multi-Terrain Select (Toyota)
  • Trail Control™ (Ford) and Crawl Control (Toyota)

However, when it comes to towing, the Ford truck takes a slight lead. The Ranger can tow 7,500 pounds when properly equipped, so you can hitch up your water ski boat and head out to your favorite destination on the Florida coast! The Toyota truck falls a bit behind, with a 6,800-pound max towing capacity.

Under the Hood: Pickup Truck Performances

Peek under the hoods of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma, and you can find some impressive engines stealing the show. The Ranger offers just one engine: an EcoBoost® 4-cylinder with up to 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

The Tacoma's 3.5L V6 offers comparable output-but it's not the base engine. To get that same robust drive, you'll need to upgrade from the Tacoma's standard 4-cylinder, which puts out just 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque.

You'll get the extra punch from the Ranger's standard turbocharged turbine, while the base Tacoma may struggle a bit getting up to speed on the highways. Both trucks do offer available four-wheel drive (4WD), so you can expect excellent traction wherever you drive.

Advanced Technology Features

2019 Ford Ranger PerformanceThe 2019 Ranger and Tacoma have intuitive and user-friendly infotainment systems in the form of SYNC® and Entune™, respectively. You'll get a sleek, responsive touchscreen in both rides (eight inches in the Ranger and seven inches in the Tacoma) as well as Bluetooth® for hands-free calling and audio streaming.

However, only the Ranger's SYNC® 3 system offers Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, so you can access your apps during your ride. Simply connect your smartphone via the USB port and send texts, manage your music library, and more from the vehicle touchscreen!
