2019 Edge vs Equinox: Cargo Space

2018 Ford Edge Cargo SpaceIf you're looking for more versatile storage space, the Ford Edge has an advantage due to its size. It's a midsize crossover, while the Equinox slates one segment smaller, as a compact crossover. Behind the backseat of the Edge, you'll find roughly 39 cubic feet of cargo space, which eclipses the 29.9 cubic feet in the Equinox.

Both rides offer standard split-folding rear seats to expand the cargo area. With the backseat folded, the Equinox offers more than 63 cubic feet of cargo space-but once again, the Ford SUV has the "edge," with more than 73 cubic feet.

For convenience, you'll like the available hands-free power liftgates in both SUVs. Just kick your foot under the rear bumper while your key fob is in your purse or pocket, and the gate will rise on its own. When you have full hands, you'll find this feature especially handy.

Crossover Performance Specs

The Chevy Equinox runs on a standard turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower on tap. If you want more power, you can upgrade to a larger turbocharged 4-cylinder with 252 horsepower up its sleeve. The base engine may feel a bit underpowered on the highway, but the upgraded one is livelier.

Under the hood of the Ford Edge, the base engine is on par with the Chevy SUV's upgraded engine. From the EcoBoost® 4-cylinder, you'll get 245 horsepower to play around with. Also, the available EcoBoost® V6 blows the Chevy crossover away with 335 horsepower.

Both rides can tow up to 3,500 pounds when properly equipped. You should be able to tow a lightweight travel trailer on your next weekend getaway-or hitch up a couple of jet skis for some fun along the Florida coast!

Interior Features: Space & Style

2018 Ford Edge PerformanceDespite their differences in size, the 2019 Edge and Equinox make plenty of room for passengers. You get nearly 40 inches of rear legroom in the Equinox, which is more than enough to accommodate the tallest of riders. The Edge's second-row seats are similarly spacious, with almost 41 inches of rear legroom.

Both SUVs use attractive design schemes, although you'll find higher quality materials in the Ford vehicle. The Equinox uses plenty of soft-touch materials on the top-of-the-line trim, but lower trims rely on hard plastics in key places. By contrast, the Edge features soft materials and plated accents across all trim levels.
